Bhagat Singh no terrorist: Govt
Posted December 21st, 2007 by administratorNEW DELHI: The clock of Indian history turned full circle on Wednesday with the government describing as "utter nonsense" the textbook reference to freedom fighter Bhagat Singh and his comrades as "revolutionary terrorists".
On November 1, TOI had reported the controversy triggered by the UPSC, which put the phrase in one of its IAS exam papers in October. Eminent historians, who used the term "revolutionary terrorism" in the past, had sought cover saying they would rather not use the term since "terrorism" had assumed a distinct meaning today.
Celebrations turn sour in Amritsar
Posted September 28th, 2007 by administratorAMRITSAR: The memories of birth centenary celebrations of Bhagat Singh will not be easily erased from the minds of around three hundred farmers, including ladies and children, who had arrived here on Thursday to pay tribute to the martyr.
While chief minister Parkash Singh Badal was laying floral wreaths at the flame of liberty, police were lathicharging these farmers. Around eight of them were injured.
