Today's youth is not interested in having long kesh(hair)

Some times parents have sleepless nights because children don't want to have long hair according to our religion.And last their children do what ever they want.At first ,the parents feel sad and ashamed and then they agreed as how long they can force their children.
What should have been done when children do not want to listen ?

I got my sons hair cut.
Then while visiting his grannies at Mohali he went and paid visit to Gurdwara Fatehgarh sahib and he started to keep it again on his own.
he was then 11 years old.
