President Bush greets Sikhs on 300th anniversary of Guru Granth Sahib

Washington June 20, : President Bush has greeted the Sikhs across America and worldwide on the 300th anniversary of the Sikh Scripture, Guru Granth Sahib as the community will commemorate this event in October.

Sikhs will be celebrating this auspicious occasion in their respective congregations all over the world.

"I send greetings to those celebrating the 300th anniversary of the Sikh Scriptures", said President Bush in a message released today from the White House.

Book on Guru Granth Sahib released

In an attempt to look at the Sri Guru Granth Sahib as a sacred scripture, author AC Katoch released his book named ‘Guru Granth Sahib- The Installation of the Holy Scripture’ in the Capital on Thursday.

The book presents an account of the composition of the holy book. It deals with the setting up of gurdwaras. It also includes the statements of the former President, APJ Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, when they visited Amritsar on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the installation of the holy book.

DSGMC to print Guru Granth Sahib in US, Canada

Adding further fuel to the controversy over the printing of the Guru Granth Sahib, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has decided to print the holy book either in the US or Canada.

The move is symbolic of its strong defiance to the Amritsar-based Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s (SGPC) decision seeking a ban on the printing and sale of the holy scripture.

Granth Sahib to be in English

AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Thursday announced to translate Guru Granth Sahib in English. The decision was taken in the meeting of Dharam Parchar Committee (DPC) of SGPC.

DPC also passed a resolution condemning the efforts of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) of allegedly exporting saroop of Guru Granth Sahib.

Avtar Singh Makkar, SGPC president, said the decision has been taken to spread the philosophy of Guru Granth Sahib. He said for this purpose services of Sikh scholars - Jaswant Singh Neki and Jodh Singh - will be taken.
