A compilation of some rare pictures of Golden Temple was released recently by Dawn Studios. The book takes its readers to every part of the Golden Temple complex, with pictures of precious jewellery on display in the sanctum sanctorum and Guru Granth Sahib being taken in a gold palanquin.

AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) would install close circuit cameras on the premises of the Golden Temple besides some other Gurdwaras (Sikh Shrines) in Punjab.

In an executive meeting held in the mini-parliament of Sikhs on the premises of the SGPC headed by SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar here, it has been decided that shortly, close circuit cameras would be installed in the entire premises of Golden Temple to enhance the security measures for the visiting devotees.

Smoke-free zone around Golden Temple

CHANDIGARH: A smoke-free zone would be demarcated around the Golden Temple at Amritsar to shield the historic shrine from increasing pollution in its vicinity.

Punjab Health and Environment Minister Bikram Singh Majiththa said the state government was alarmed at the reports of damage to the historic temple due to rising pollution and has asked the Punjab Pollution Control Board to demarcate a pollution free-zone around it in which no vehicle would be allowed and all activities that create smoke would be barred.

Dalai Lama visits Golden Temple

The Buddhists spiritual head Dalai Lama, along with his followers, paid obeisance at the Golden Temple today. He showed keen interest in information provided by the information officer about the Sikh religion, Sikh History, Golden temple and religious rituals.

Later, Akal Takht jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti, granthi Giani Gurbachan Singh and SGPC president Avtar Singh honoured the spiritual guru with a siropa and memento.
